Opportunity is Still Out There...

From Phil Breman, About.com GuideNovember 14, 2007

A strike is tough on everyone involved. It's even tougher if you're one of the thousands just trying to get an entertainment career off the ground. You might feel like you've lost your chance before you even got started.

But the same way a disastrous tornado brings a housing contractor a building job (sorry, bad analogy), opportunity is out there if you know where to look. Although many of the union projects are starting to shut down, there are dozens of independent features starting to ramp up. One great place to find out what's happening in the independent film world is to consider joining the Independent Feature Project.

In their words: "IFP is a 29-year old, not-for-profit membership and advocacy organization that supports and serves the independent film community by connecting creative talent and the film industry. Wide-reaching programs provide invaluable information, resources, networking and support to filmmakers while promoting film as a vital and influential public art form."

I've personally been a member of this wonderful organization for the past ten years and it has provided me with invaluable contacts, information and services that you just can't find anywhere else. Check them out at IFP.org.
