News Corporation was started by Rupert Murdoch in 1980. Prior to 1980, the company was known as News Limited which was a company that Murdoch started back in 1952 using the assets he had inherited from his father, Sir Keith Murdoch.

News Corporation has become a dominant player in the entertainment industry by not only acquiring valuable assets that help to diversify their efforts (such as 20th Century Fox, MySpace.com, etc.)but also by creating in-house brands that establish themselves as trend setters rather than copy cats.
