Film/TV Career Tips: Let YouTube Bring You an Audience!
With Millions of Viewers, Why not go After Them?

From , former About.com Guide

It used to be that if you had an idea for a movie, you had to write a script, sell the concept to someone who could fund the film, produce it, edit it and then finally, distribute it to an audience. We are now in an age where you simply need to shoot something -- anything -- and in seconds, your project can be viewed by anyone with internet access.

Now, I know that 90% of what's on YouTube.com and similar video sites (Metacafe.com, Flurl.com, etc.) is nothing more than funny (or not funny) cat videos, babies being goofy, or morons hurting themselves doing "JackAss" type stunts and the like. But there is also a growing percentage of young filmmakers who are putting their products on this medium and getting attention never before imaginable.

I am not advocating that YouTube is the ideal place for your films, but if all you're looking to do is showcase a particular talent (filmmaking, singing, dancing, acting, etc.), what cheaper, faster way can you think of where you have access to millions of viewers at a moments notice?

The point is, it's important to start looking at YouTube as a tool you can use when you're ready. Again, regardless of whether or not you like YouTube, it's important to know that it can work for you.

There are a huge number of stories (and growing each day) about actors, singers, directors, and many others becoming discovered on YouTube.com. They simply posted some video that showcases their talent and eventually, someone saw it and recommended to someone else who had enough influence to take them from internet phenomenon to genuine Hollywood star.

So, if you have the means (video camera and time), consider using YouTube.com to help you reach the audience for your particular talent. Who knows? One day your video might launch you to superstardom.
